Avoid sharing your home or workplace address, financial information, government ID, travel documents, daily routine, precise location, passwords, or intimate material early in a relationship.
Stay on-platform initially
Scammers often push conversations quickly to other services to avoid platform controls. Communications outside PinayPromise cannot be monitored, preserved, or protected by PinayPromise.
Recognize romance scams
- Sudden emergencies or requests for airfare, visa fees, medical costs, gift cards, cryptocurrency, investments, wires, or loans
- Repeated inability or refusal to join a live video call
- Inconsistent stories, rapid declarations of love, urgency, secrecy, or isolation from people you trust
- Requests for banking details, login codes, identity documents, or intimate content that could be used for extortion
International dating and video calls
Long distance can make identity and circumstances harder to verify. Check whether stories remain consistent over time. A video call can help, but does not guarantee identity, intentions, relationship status, or safety. Never assume any nationality predicts honesty or risk.
Meeting in person
- Meet first in a populated public place and tell someone where you are going
- Control your own transportation; keep a charged phone and an exit plan
- Do not surrender your passport, ID, phone, money, or travel documents
- Keep control of food and drinks; leave whenever you feel uncomfortable
Travel safety
- Maintain independent access to money, lodging, transportation, and copies of travel documents
- Share itinerary and check-in plans with trusted people
- Know local emergency contacts and entry, exit, and immigration rules
- Do not rely on a new partner for your only accommodation or means to leave
Alcohol, drugs, consent, and sexual health
Stay able to make clear decisions. Consent must be freely given, specific, informed, and can be withdrawn at any time. An incapacitated person cannot consent. Discuss sexual health, testing, and protection without pressure or stigma.
